Universal Remote Control (URC) has officially launched CCP (Complete Control Program), a universal programming platform for all but one of the manufacturer’s current professional installation products. Previously, each URC professional remote had its own programming language and editor.

CCP provides installers new enhancements like “Undo/Redo,” “Mirror,” and “Copy” features for making code portable across various remotes; an LCD button editor; gallery views for drag-and-drop additions of devices and favorite channel logos; and the addition of all programming manuals to the “Help” menu. It introduces drag-and-drop two-way programming that usually requires no more than a minute of setup, according to the company.

Because CCP uses the paradigm of a house and allows the programmer to progress room-by-room, the entire process is more intuitive and more efficient. An installer can use CCP’s configurable workspace to program an entire house full of different remotes and base stations in one file. Drivers for all supported URC remotes are included, and CCP sorts URC products by the room in which each resides.

According to URC, any program that was created for a CCP-compatible remote using one of the company’s older methods can be opened in CCP with a single mouse click. The MX-3000 is the only remote that is not and cannot be part of CCP for technical reasons. Older MX-3000 programs created with the MX-3000 standalone editor cannot be opened in CCP.

CCP also accepts Live Updates that automatically install new features and expand product support.

Other features include:

• Web browsing for the MX-6000 2-way color touch screen: Finally, there’s a touch screen browser that doesn’t need a stylus. Users can set their own home pages and favorites, no service calls required. Installers can create one-touch buttons on any page that jump to specific sites as a macro step.

• New two-way modules for the MX-5000 and the MX-6000 that support IP-controlled A/V receivers from Denon, Integra, Onkyo, B&K, and Yamaha. These include AM/FM/HD tuner modules that display frequencies, station names, HD metadata, presets, and new Favorite Stations stored on the remote for each zone with a press-and-hold, just like a car radio; XM and Sirius modules that display all song, artist and title metadata that XM and Sirius provide, plus the channel artwork that’s missing from the AVR’s TV GUI; status modules that provide the end user with a snapshot of the current zone status, with a display of input, mode and volume; and tuner modules with an integrated pop-up display of volume, so that when AVR volume is adjusted, the end user sees real-time feedback on the remote that’s specific to the zone he or she is controlling.

• Eleven new models have been added to the IP-controllable Audio/Video devices for Volume Pop-Up.

• CCP’s IR database has been updated to include new Marantz and Onkyo receivers.

• More than 300 new models have been added to CCP’s RS-232 serial database.

• There’s a new method for finding and adding two-way modules to the MX-5000 and MX-6000.

• User Guides have been added to the CCP Help section for the AVR 2-way modules and the Web browser.

Xcode 12 looks great on macOS Big Sur, with a navigator sidebar that goes to the top of the window and clear new toolbar buttons. The navigator defaults to a larger font that’s easier to read, while giving you multiple size choices. New document tabs make it easy to create a working set of files within your workspace.

Document tabs.

The new tab model lets you open a new tab with a double-click, or track the selected file as you click around the navigator. You can re-arrange the document tabs to create a working set of files for your current task, and configure how content is shown within each tab. The navigator tracks the open files within your tabs using strong selection.

Navigator font sizes.

The navigator now tracks the system setting for “Sidebar icon size” used in Finder and Mail. You can also choose a unique font size just for Xcode within Preferences, including the traditional dense information presentation, and up to large fonts and icon targets.

A new completion UI presents only the information you need, taking up less screen space as you type. And completions are presented much faster, so you can keep coding at maximum speed.

Updated automatically

When you open your project in Xcode 12, your app is automatically updated to produce release builds and archives as Universal apps. When you build your app, Xcode produces one binary “slice” for Apple Silicon and one for the Intel x86_64 CPU, then wraps them together as a single app bundle to share or submit to the Mac App Store. You can test this at any time by selecting “Any Mac” as the target in the toolbar.

Test multiple architectures.

On the new Mac with Apple Silicon, you can run and debug apps running on either the native architecture or on Intel virtualization by selecting “My Mac (Rosetta)” in the toolbar.
